Un vieil homme, modeste jardinier du domaine impérial, est tombé amoureux d'une femme de haut rang. Elle apprend la chose et inflige au jardinier une punition humiliante.
Il lui faudra porter le fardeau de l'amour, ainsi avec un peu de chance, aura t-il l'occasion de revoir un jour celle qu'il aime. Le vieil homme se soumet à l'épreuve, mais le fardeau est trop lourd . Il meurt, terrassé, sans avoir pu le soulever.
Son esprit apparaît aux yeux de la cruelle.

An elderly palace gardener fell in love with a court lady . In jest, she has a heavy stone wrapped in brocade and placed in the garden . She taunts the gardener, telling him that if he will carry the package around the garden, she will give him her love .
The gardener exhausts himself trying to lift the stone, and dies, his heart full of resentment and anger .
The lady regrets her frivolous deed, and goes to ask forgiveness at his grave .
The spirit of the old gardener appears, and berates her for the heartlessness, but upon seeing her sincere regret, forgives her and leaves her in peace, promising yo protect her from all harm.
